Preview Soldier Story new 1/6 scale S2.5 Body

This is the new Soldier Story 1/6 scale S2.5 Body (12-inch Figure) that will come with the release of the FBI counter-terrorism HRT Hostage Rescue Team (see previous post). Whenever Soldier Story does a military figure (or any other 1/6 manufacturer who is not producing movie-related figures), they always try to base the 1/6 scale head sculpt on a famous person, usually an actor in a movie. This lets collectors identify with the character instead of just a generic person's face. Gone are the days of having just one head sculpt which you then buy with different attires or outfits (e.g. G.I. Joe, Action Man and Captain Action). Nowadays, collectors expect to see a new head sculpt with a new figure and this latest release is no exception.

Can you guess who the head sculpt is supposed to be? Scroll down to see more pictures of this new Soldier Story 1/6 scale S2.5 Body. Looks pretty good from here.

Preview Soldier Story 1/6 scale FBI counter-terrorism HRT Hostage Rescue Team 12" figure

The FBI Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) is the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation's counter-terrorism Special Forces tactical or SWAT team. The HRT is trained to rescue U.S. citizens and allies who are held by a hostile force, either terrorist or criminal. The Hostage Rescue Team was founded in 1982 by Danny Coulson and completed its final certification exercise in October 1983. [source: wiki]

The HRT's purpose is to serve as a domestic counter-terrorism unit, offering a tactical resolution option in hostage and high-risk law enforcement situations. It was originally composed of 50 operators; however, this number has since increased to well over 90 full-time operators. The HRT commonly functions as a national SWAT team in highly sensitive or dangerous situations. Today it is part of the Tactical Support Branch of the FBI's Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) and is based at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

The idea for the HRT was originally conceived during the late 1970s but came to fruition when then FBI director William H. Webster witnessed a demonstration by the US Army Delta Force. When Webster reviewed the equipment used by the Delta Force and noticed there were no handcuffs, he inquired about it. An operator grimly replied, "We put two rounds in their forehead; the dead don't need handcuffs." The idea of the HRT began as an augmented SWAT and counter-terror team. The team would be capable of handling extraordinary hostage situations, large-scale counter-terrorist operations, situations involving nuclear or biological agents, or operations that local law enforcement or the regional FBI field office were not trained or equipped to handle.

Cowabunga! Pre-order Playmates Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their Secret Sewer Lair

Who amongst us do not know about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Thing is, they never seem to go away.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (often shortened to TMNT or Ninja Turtles) are a fictional team of four teenage anthropomorphic turtles, who were trained by their anthropomorphic rat sensei in the art of ninjutsu and named after four Renaissance artists. From their home in the storm sewers of New York City, they battle petty criminals, evil overlords and alien invaders, all while remaining isolated from society-at-large.

The characters initially appeared in comic books before being licensed for toys, cartoons, video games, films, and other merchandise. During the peak of its popularity in the late 1980s through early 1990s, the franchise gained considerable worldwide success and fame. (source: wiki)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was created in an American comic book published by Mirage Studios in 1984 in Dover, New Hampshire. The concept arose from a humorous drawing sketched out by Kevin Eastman during a casual evening of brainstorming with his friend Peter Laird. Using money from a tax refund together with a loan from Eastman's uncle, the young artists self-published a single-issue comic intended to parody four of the most popular comics of the early 1980s: Marvel Comics' Daredevil and New Mutants, Dave Sim's Cerebus, and Frank Miller's Ronin.

Preview World Box [LAKOR BABY] Ultraman baby of new hope 1/6 scale collectible figure

This is the latest announcement by World Box on their [LAKOR BABY] Ultraman baby of new hope, Item Number: 004, Product Type: Action Figure, Product Size: 6" Height (approx. 150mm). The figure features 1/6 scale head, body (150mm), Ultraman mask, Battle suit, gloves x 2 pairs, boots x 1 pair, Bracelet x 1, miniature Human figure, Godzilla baby, Building.

World Box has already released the Lakor Baby Joker, Lakor Bat Baby and Lakor Iron Baby with Scout GO coming soon. This makes it their fifth figure but fourth in their Lakor Baby series. It's certainly a move away from the Avengers line when you consider that World Box released the pair of Joker and Bat Baby and then followed that up with Iron Baby. One would expect them to go on and finish the Avengers line-up but it looks like it's not going in that direction. Instead we get the Ultraman Baby figure.

A bit confused with this particular figure. Is he supposed to be Ultraman Baby since he comes with a miniature human figure and building plus Godzilla baby or is he just a regular kid wearing the Ultraman costume because he plays with kitchen utensils? Don't believe me? Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures ;p

Review III: DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 Spade J 12-inch stylized Jason Statham figure

You've already seen my first two reviews of this recently released DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Spade J 12-inch figure posted earlier HERE (box packaging and contents) and HERE (Spade J figure with complete outfit). This is a great new figure by DAM Toys and a great new direction they are taking the company and its products, moving away from the often done-to-death but still necessary military genre and focusing on a whole new aspect of 1/6 figures previously done by Hot Toys (think Brothersworker, Apexplorer etc) but at much more affordable prices :)

Here's more of DAM Toys Spade J figure who IMHO looks a lot like an animated / stylized Jason Statham. This appears to be all the more true when DAM Toys previewed their second Spade figure in this Gangsters Kingdom line / series and he looked a lot like Vinnie Jones! See the preview pictures HERE. Both actors (Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham) appeared in the Guy Ritchie 1998 film "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". So far, two spades have shown up. Does that mean that there'll be thirteen figures in all? Since there are 13 cards in a suit and there are four suits in a deck / pack. Well, one can only wait-and-see.

I really dig this stylized look. What'e even more amazing is that he actually resembles someone we know. Love the head sculpt, love the blocky hands and the body's quality is great, as are the outfit and accessories. DAM Toys did a damn fine job producing this Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 Spade J 12-inch stylized Jason Statham figure. Definitely looking forward to more of such figures from DAM. Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures :)

Hot Toys next 1/6 Whiplash Mark II will be die-cast. So will the Iron Man Mark XLII (Mark 42)

Here are pictures of the prototypes for the next round of 1/6 scale Iron Man related releases by Hot Toys. One thing is for sure – these will be die-cast Movie Masterpiece Series 12-inch figures! Since announcing that the upcoming Hot Toys Iron Man 3 1/6th scale Iron Patriot 12" Collectible Figure will be die-cast (see my earlier post HERE), it seems like these will follow suit.

Just check out the details on the Whiplash armor - simply mind blowing. But being diecast, it only means that it will cost more than one that's made of plastic. Question is: Is that really necessary? Sure, it's going to feel nice when you are holding it in your hands but most times, it will be on display and what Hot Toys managed to do with the previous plastic armor suits i.e. making him look metallic and armor-like with their amazing paint job was pretty good. Now that it's die-cast, it just means higher cost which will be transferred to the buyer / collector.

Medicom Toys Kubrick Series Batman Figures

Wanted to just share some of the Medicom Toys Kubrick Series Batman Figures I collected some years back :)

Kubrick (キューブリック Kyūburikku) is a line of collectible block-style figures and associated products created by Japanese toy company MediCom Toy Inc. Kubrick figures are produced in three scales, designated as 100% (six centimeters high), 400% (24 centimeters high), and 1000% (60 centimeters high). The basic Kubrick figure design has a body that resembles an extremely simplified human form, somewhat similar in appearance to Playmobil or Lego figures. Produced in limited numbers and not re-released, Kubricks are highly sought-after by collectors. Kubricks are predominantly collected by adults; the packaging recommends the figures to collectors 13 years or older. (source: wiki)

"Kubrick" was chosen in honor of filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. In further homage to the filmmaker, the Kubrick logo is designed in the style of the logo created for his movie A Clockwork Orange. By linguistic coincidence, the name Kubrick may also be seen as a hybrid word of the Japanese word kyu, meaning the number nine, and the English word brick. Nine is the number of tools (a toy industry term for parts of a figure) used in a standard Kubrick figure: head, torso, hips, two arms, two hands, and two legs; the English word brick is collector’s jargon for LEGO elements, and refers to the similarity of Kubricks to Lego Minifigures.

The picture above is that of Tim Burton's 1989 Michael Keaton Batman figure with removable mask. Comes with a batarang.

Humble Beginnings - We all have to start somewhere :) and this is my early start

Dug up some old photographs I took of my collection back in 1996 when I just started collecting toys ;p It was a bit of this and a bit of that and a mix of everything without much of a focus on what I really wanted. That has changed since I decided to focus on 1/6 scale figures. Back then, 12-inch figures were almost non-existent and the only ones available were the vintage G.I. Joe and Action Man figures from the 1960s to 1970s and early 1980s so there really wasn't much in terms of choices or genres. Most were military based and that's how I got started. Obviously a lot of things have changed since then and now there's a specific collectibles market targeting only adult collectors with the purchasing power to buy all the high-end stuff. I'm glad to have witnessed and seen how the 1/6 scale 12-inch figure market has grown from a almost non-existent point to where it is today, an art form much appreciated by a ever growing, ever expanding pool of collectors :)

Batman has always been my first love and it was "Batman, The Animated Series" that got me hooked to toys. I loved the series with its "Dark Deco" visual style based on the artwork of producer and artist Bruce Timm. The funny thing is, I only noticed all these after my first son was born and I became a father. We watched cartoons together and "Batman: The Animated Series" caught my eye. So when I brought him to Toys R Us and saw the animated Batman toys on the racks, it was love at first sight haha. I liked how the toys stayed very true to the visual style seen in the animated series. So began the journey of discovering new things and the passion for toys was sparked. Check out my very first toy blog post HERE about Batman :)

Check out Foxbox Studio 00: Hawke (Ser Isaac's Armor) 1/6th Scale Custom Showcase Figure

From Foxbox Studio:
NOTE: This is a showcase item. Custom NOT for sale figure done by our artists at FoxBox Studio.

We at FoxBox Studio are a fan of Visceral's Dead Space and Bioware's Dragon Age series. What better way to pay homage to those amazing games by making a figure out of their mashup? So here is our rendition of Hawke in Ser Isaac's Armor.

The chilling tales of Ser Isaac of Clarke are a favorite of bards performing in the wee hours of the night. In dank taverns throughout Thedas, these horror-filled stories captivate listeners and bring nightmares to those faint of heart. — From Codex entry: Ser Isaac's Armor

DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 Spade J 12-inch figure – animated Jason Statham Review II

continued from previous post...

This is part 2 of my review of the DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Spade J 12-inch figure. After reviewing the box contents and accessories and showing off the 12-inch tattooed body in the earlier post, this toy blog post will reveal the figure with his heavy leather motorcycle jacket and peaked cap.

Everything about this figure has been good so far and I would recommend it to anyone who asks how this figure fares :) The detailing and finishing / stitching is top notch and the quality is right up there with the best of them. The 12-inch base figure body is tight and stands very well on its own without the need for a figure stand to hold it up, just the way I like my 1/6 scale figures. Scroll down to see more pictures of the complete figure and one minor gripe I have concerning this DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Spade J 12-inch figure.

Review 1: DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 Spade J 12" figure – animated Jason Statham

This is the much highly anticipated DAM Toys Gangsters Kingdom 1/6 scale Spade J 12-inch figure. This is a totally new and original line by DAM Toys and when they first announced it, they caught everyone by surprise and made many people sit up and take notice. DAM Toys was telling everybody (collectors and competitors alike) that they were picking up the pace and everyone better watch out :) Many 12-inch figure collectors including myself were certainly excited to see something different and something very artistic in the way DAM Toys managed to create a stylized / animated version of Jason Statham. Who else is this guy supposed to be?

Since posting about this getting this figure in my earlier toy blog post "My March 2013 HAUL and it's another BIG one :)" HERE, I've gotten quite a lot of requests to see the review and pictures of this bad boy. So without further ado, let's jump right into it. Scroll down to see the pictures of this DAM Toys Spade J figure. There are lots and there's going to be lots more.

Review Dream EX 2012 Toy Fairs Exclusive 1/6 scale Bat-Signal / Spotlight - Call for Batman

This is the Dream EX 2012 Toy Fairs Exclusive 1/6 scale Spotlight - Collectible Movie Scene fitting. What it really is is the Bat-Signal used by the Gotham City Police Department to call Batman, the city's Dark Knight and hero. What's even better is that this is in 1/6 scale :)

The Bat-Signal is a distress signal device appearing in the various interpretations of the Batman mythos. It is a specially modified Klieg searchlight with a stylized symbol of a bat attached to the light so that it projects a large Bat emblem on the sky or buildings of Gotham City. In the stories, the signal is used by the Gotham City Police Department as a method of contacting and summoning Batman to their assistance in the event of a serious crisis and as a weapon of psychological intimidation to the numerous villains of Gotham City.

The origin of the signal varies between timeline and media. It made its first appearance in Detective Comics #60, February 1942. In the 1989 Batman film, Batman gave the signal to the police as a gift enabling them to call him when the city is in danger; in 2005's Batman Begins, then-lieutenant James Gordon installs the Bat signal on the roof of the police department, which he obtained after an incident when Batman leaves the Bat signal at the docks with the mobster Carmine Falcone strapped on to it intending that the Gotham Police Department take possession of both.

Scroll down to see pictures of this Dream EX 2012 Toy Fairs Exclusive 1/6 scale Bat-Signal / Spotlight. The fact that it is a working spotlight with interchangeable Bat logos is a bonus!

Review ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol.08 1/6 scale Action Figure Fashion for James Gordon

This is the ZC World (ZCWO) Mens Hommes Vol. 08 Men's Collection 1/6 Scale Action Figure Fashion boxed set (Action Figure NOT included) that was released recently. I had actually reviewed the later released MH Vol. 10 USAF Officer Service Dress Uniform set first (see my toy blog post HERE and HERE) but it's better late than never :) This MH Vol. 08 set appears to be specifically targeting or inspired by a particular fictional character who is an ally of Batman and appeared in comic books published by DC Comics before going onto the big screen, most recently seen in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy films.

In most incarnations of the Batman mythos, James "Jim" Gordon is the Police Commissioner of Batman's home of Gotham City. He shares the hero’s deep commitment to ridding the dark and corrupt city of crime. In Golden and Silver age comics and on the 1960s Batman television show, Gordon fully trusts, and is even somewhat dependent on Batman. In most modern stories, he is somewhat skeptical of Batman's vigilante method but recognizes the necessity of Batman and the two have a mutual respect and tacit friendship.

I had already kitbashed a 1/6 scale Lt. James "Jim" Gordon 12-inch figure wearing plain clothes earlier HERE so this is a second fitting for Gordon ;p Scroll down to see all the pictures (lots of them) and what is included in this ZC World ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol.08 1/6 scale Action Figure Fashion set (for Police Commissioner James Gordon)

Preview Brother Production 1/6 scale "Redrum" Custom 12-inch Action Figure "Jack Torrance"

The Shining is a 1980 psychological horror film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, co-written with novelist Diane Johnson, and starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Scatman Crothers, and Danny Lloyd. Preview Hot Toys Iron Man 3: 1/4th scale Iron Patriot Collectible Bust - War Machine upgraded

The upcoming Iron Man 3 movie will present a brand-new character Iron Patriot which is well fortified of military strength and technological superiority by transforming of War Machine Armor. Hot Toys is proud to present the 1/4th scale Iron Patriot Limited Edition Collectible Bust, which is specially produced based on the image of the Iron Patriot character in the movie in fine sculpture, highlighting the light-up functions and rotatable shoulder weapon.

Let us take a look, shall we? Busts have never been my thing because I want to see the rest of the figure, not just the top half. Busts always look incomplete because not everything is there - arms missing, torso missing, legs missing, hands and feet missing - my, that's a lot of missing parts ;p Scroll down to see the rest of the pictures. At least we know how Hot Toys will tackle the 1/6 scale version of Iron Patriot from the Iron Man 3 movie. After all, the top half should look identical in terms of the details.

My March 2013 HAUL and it's another BIG one :)

It has only been just over a month since my last BIG haul (see my last toy blog post HERE of my "Big Major HAUL before 2013 Chinese New Year") and already I've picked up another batch of figures and 1:6 scale stuff. It's really quite overwhelming. You pre-order stuff because you don't want to miss the opportunity of not getting any when it gets released but when they come all at once, it can be quite staggering and mind boggling, in a good way of course ;p

Here's a picture of all the 1/6 scale stuff I got just the other day. Scroll down to see the individual items and see what's already been released into the market. These are all pretty recent and quite up to date :) I'm glad I managed to get them first.

ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 10 1/6 U.S. Air Force Officer Service Dress Uniform Review II

continued from previous post...

The previous post could also have been titled "1/6 scale Terrence Howard as Lt. Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes from Iron Man movie" because let's face it, the ZC World ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 10 1/6 scale U.S. Air Force Officer Service Dress Uniform set for 12-inch figures is really intended for only one particular character in mind and that's Tony Stark's good buddy, Lt. Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes.

The ZC World ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 10 1/6 scale U.S. Air Force Officer Service Dress Uniform set comes with a lot of nice items and clothing, including the U.S. Air Force Topcoat and / or All-Weather Coat for cold weather as well as the United States Air Force Garrison Cap.

I didn't want to put the USAF Blue Overcoat over the U.S. Air Force Service Dress Uniform 1/6 scale Rhodey is already wearing and cover all the nice details including the ribbons and badges (see previous post) so I decided to put the overcoat or topcoat (aka all-weather coat) and USAF Garrison Cap on a classic G.I. Joe 12-inch figure in 1/6 scale Air Force Dress Uniform instead. Scroll down to see more pictures :)

Review ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 10 1/6 U.S. Air Force Officer Service Dress Uniform

This is a review of the ZC World ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 10 1/6 scale U.S. Air Force Officer Service Dress Uniform for 12-inch figures and could be paired up with the ZCWO 1/6 scale Articulate Body AB-01 (previewed HERE) which I saw in local stores. I felt that the actual AB-01 12-inch figure which looked too dark to me i.e. the skin tone was way darker than I had expected and although he's supposed to be an African American, he looked like he had been in the sun way too long.

This is my version of 1/6 scale Terrence Howard as Lt. Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes as seen in the first Iron Man film that came out in 2008. Rhodey is a friend of Stark's, and the liaison between Stark Industries and the United States Air Force in the department of acquisitions, specifically weapons development. Director Jon Favreau had cast Howard as Rhodey because he felt he could play War Machine in a sequel. But alas, that fell through.

In the follow-up film / sequel, Iron Man 2, which was released in the United States on May 7, 2010, Jon Favreau and Robert Downey, Jr. returned as director and lead, respectively, with a screenplay by Justin Theroux. Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard in the role of Colonel Rhodes, who was also seen as War Machine. For me, Terrence Howard will always be Colonel Rhodes and Don Cheadle is War Machine which explains why I decided that 1/6 scale Howard will be attired in the ZC World ZCWO Mens Hommes MH Vol. 10 1/6 scale U.S. Air Force Officer Service Dress Uniform. 1/6 Chris Evans as Steve Rogers in Classic Captain America costume by Captain Action

I wasn't too pleased with the 12-inch figure body I had used earlier for filling up this Captain Action Marvel Comics 1/6 scale Captain America Costume Set by Round 2 Corp - you can see the posts HERE and HERE. So I decided to have another go. I had just posted this updated look Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America standing together with the 1/6 scale Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark in Asmus Toys "The Avengers" outfit set in my earlier post :)

I had used the regular Hot Toys TrueType 12-inch figure body for the initial fitting but it just doesn't fill up the classic Captain America costume like it should and made Steve Rogers look rather scrawny :( So I decided to switch the body to a more muscular version and used the regular body for Tony Stark instead (see 1/6 scale stark naked Tony pictures HERE). Scroll down to see Steve Rogers new 12-inch muscular body.

Incoming: Simplz Toys X Wildwork GM01 Girl Mission 1/6 Zombie Girl 12-inch Action Figure

This is going to be an upcoming release by Simplz Toys and Wildwork: Presenting GM01 Girl Mission 1/6 scale Zombie Girl 12-inch Action Figure. It has certainly drawn inspiration from a particular movie character who has set up her mind to kill zombies / the undead in order to survive.

Resident Evil: Extinction is a 2007 action movie and the third installment in the Resident Evil film series, which is based on the Capcom survival horror series Resident Evil. The film follows the heroine Alice, along with a group of survivors from Raccoon City, as they attempt to travel across the Mojave desert wilderness to Alaska and escape a zombie apocalypse.

This particular outfit has been done and released before in 1/6 scale. See my 2009 toy blog post HERE for a look at two versions that were to be released at the time. Then there's the actual in-hand Brother Production Zombie Killer 1/6 scale female action figure - reviewed HERE. Check out the updated and much improved look with Hot Toys 1/6 scale Milla Jovovich as Alice head sculpt HERE :) I'm really quite happy with the outcome. Scroll down to see more pictures of this latest version.
